Hetty Kate was born in England, raised in Melbourne, and is now based in Paris. She's no stranger to dancers after the success of her album with Gordon Webster, and appearing at Lindy events in Korea, Thailand, Singapore, KL, New Zealand, New York, Paris and of course across Australia. With her clear voice, impeccable swing, expansive repertoire and razor-sharp wit, Hetty loves sharing her favourite classics and curios from the American Songbook and beyond. The album that started it all - Performing as the featured vocalist with renowned US lindy hop pianist Gordon Webster at a Canberra dance weekend in 2011 proved so inspiring that Hetty launched an ambitious project to create a collaborative album with him, carefully arranged with swing dancers in mind. Thanks to the generosity of lindy lovers in Australia and beyond, this vision became reality! Released in 2012 ""Gordon Webster meets Hetty Kate"" still remains one of the top-selling lindy hop albums thirteen years after its release, with Hetty's carefully curated song selections now recognized as standards among swing bands and vocalists worldwide. These days Hetty's performances focus more on more contemporary jazz, but her connection to the swing community and the gorgeous songs from the '30s and '40s still runs deep. Visiting from Paris for her annual Australian tour, Hetty returns to her roots for MLX, reuniting with dear friends both on the stage and on the dance floor as they swing 'til the rafters ring! Introducing 'The Warm-Up' Workshops with Peter Kertz (France/US) and Elze Visnevskyte (Lithuania) 🥳 Elze and Peter might be just the thing to inspire your dancing, have a blast, and help you make friends heading into MLX. She comes from Lithuania, while he comes from Los Angeles and together, they have a Euro-American style all about fun and connectedness. Their musicality, playfulness, and creativity are part of their light-hearted personalities as dancers, as well as instructors. Their energy is contagious and their class material is stimulating - be prepared for loud laughs, crazy fun, and exciting new moves! 💃🕺😎 Peter & Elze will be running four Lindy Hop workshops at the following times during MLX: Thu 20/11, 3.30-5pm (Adv) Fri 21/11, 10-11.30am (Int+) Fri 21/11, 1-2.30pm (Adv) Fri 21/11, 3.30-5pm (Adv) Cost = $40/workshop (plus fees). Based in Paris since 2016, Leigh has been touring the world with the Gordon Webster Band, as well featuring in many international festivals as a guest member of the Shirt Tail Stompers, the Hot Sugar Band, Naomi and Her Handsome Devils, and every other elite swing lineup in Europe. For MLX 2025 he is reforming his classic lineup from Melbourne, featuring the incredible vocalist Heather Stewart (also living in France since 2016), Eamon McNelis and Matt Boden, and other luminaries of Australian swing. For the Friday night party Leigh will bring a huge 9 piece lineup to do classic swing and "mini-big band repertoire," and for the Sunday party they will return to their roots as a formidable grooving 6 piece, as seen at Melbourne Town Hall (MSF 2013) the Little Big Weekend (2012 Sydney) and many other Australian Lindy Hop parties in the past.
